If you haven't read Moonlit Shadows: Taken yet, you might want to wait until after you've read the book to continue reading this blog entry. I've decided to periodically post different parts of Moonlit Shadows: Taken that had been altered, completely rewritten, or axed all together. This scene had been cut to keep the points of view narrowed to a limited amount of characters. I hope you enjoy it!
CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
Carol walked through the front door completely exhausted from work. Soft light from the front porch filtered through the living room window, allowing her to see through the darkness. Letting out a weary yawn, she trudged straight down the hall to her bedroom.
When she flipped the light switch on nothing happened. "Shoot, the light must've burnt out," she grumbled.
She went to her nightstand and fumbled in the drawer for her flashlight. Just then the floor creaked behind her. Someone was there, she could sense it.
"Sami?" she whispered, but she knew it wasn't her daughter. As soon as her hand clasped around the cool metal base of the flashlight, she turned it on and spun around, horrified to see a giant wolf-like creature towering over her.
Carol screamed and jumped back, slamming into the wall behind her. Her entire body shook with fear.
The beast, covered in thick brown fur, narrowed it's blood red eyes and sneered ominously.
"It can't be. It can't be," Carol said through ragged breaths, shaking her head. The flashlight slipped from her trembling fingers and clanked to the floor. "Werewolves don't exist."
The werewolf took a step toward her and growled viciously, bearing it's saliva drenched fangs.
Carol screamed again, shifting her body into the corner. She eyed the doorway, wanting desperately to try to run, but she couldn't move her legs. A sudden jolt of pain shot through her chest, sucking the air from her lungs. She doubled over, clutching her chest, trying to catch her breath. The pain intensified and the room started to spin. She fell forward, hitting the floor with a loud thud as the world around her distorted into darkness . . .
It was really hard for me to cut this scene from the book, but after seeing the end result, I was glad that I did.
Have a great week and a safe 4th of July weekend!
